Much like West Michigan, AAC Credit Union was built in the furniture industry; a heritage of which we are most proud. Over the years we have grown to include other industries and West Michigan at large. We owe much of our success to loyal members and the hardworking passion passed down from our founders.
From the credit union under the stairs
In 1937, five employees of the American Seating Company came together to form a small credit union providing a safe place to save money and receive a fair-deal on loans. The original branch was nestled under the stairs in the AMSECO payroll department. For many years, the branch resided in AMSECO until moving across the street in the 1960’s.
In the mid-1980’s, we grew again when McInerney Wire and Hekman Furniture employees partnered with AAC. Near the same time we also began a wonderful partnership with Herman Miller serving their employees across the country.
In 1998, we opened our doors to the community allowing membership from anyone who lives, works, worships or studies in Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, Barry or Allegan counties giving more people the opportunity to experience banking at its best.
Our growth continued throughout the years and in 2007 we welcomed members of Northside Credit Union (Magna Donnelly CU) to the family and in 2013 North Kent Catholic Credit Union. The members of Big Dutch Fleet Credit Union joined us in September of 2015.
To a 5 star rated financial organization
From 5 founding members we have grown into a 5-Star Rated credit union serving over 10,000 members at 6 West Michigan branches, and beyond. We were recently honored by being named as one of the Top Three Credit Unions in the Best of West Michigan vote. We take serving our members very seriously, and it shows.
Our #1 source of new members is family and friend referrals
For over 75 years, generations of members have passed on the tradition of banking at AAC Credit Union. We regard every referral as the highest compliment. Within our walls you might find someone planning for retirement, while another is getting her first car loan. Our ‘know you by name’ service is our hallmark.
What’s in a name?
A common question is what do the letters AAC stand for? The answer, American Associated Companies. When founded, the name was chosen to signify that all who were members were associated by working for American furniture companies. As our charter of membership grew to include additional industries and the community-at-large somehow the name ‘stuck’ and we remained AAC.Go to main navigation
